CES 2022: Trucks, transportation, and delivery tech on display

Jan. 7, 2022
CES 2022 returned to Las Vegas for the first time since 2020. From autonomous vehicles and the technology that makes them possible to delivery robots and electric vehicles, transportation is a big focus of the companies paving the future.

LAS VEGAS—Transportation is nothing without technology this century. A lot of the technology that moves goods today and could move cargo and people in the future is on display at the CES 2022, the Consumer Technology Association’s (CTA) annual event showcasing influential tech from around the world.

This is the first time since 2020 that CES was held in-person at the Las Vegas Convention Center and other places around the city. Among the more than 2,200 exhibitors are many focused on transportation. From autonomous vehicles and the technology that helps navigate those trucks and cars to final-mile robots and electric vehicles, the show is big on mobility.

“As the world’s most influential technology event, CES is steadfast in its pledge to be the gathering place to showcase products and discuss ideas that will ultimately make our lives better,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CTA. “We are shortening the show to three days and have put in place comprehensive health measures for the safety of all attendees and participants.”

With extra health safety protocols in place—including vaccine requirements and COVID-19 antigen self-tests distributed to every attendee—CES opened on Jan. 5 and runs through Jan. 7. Originally planned to go until Jan. 8, organizers shortened the show because of the recent rise in COVID-19 cases across the globe.

Along with in-person seminars, keynote addresses, and press conferences, CES 2022 made some of its content virtual this year for those unwilling to travel to Las Vegas. But for those who did make it out to the Nevada desert, there was a good amount of mobility technology on display. Here is a quick look at some of the transportation technology that caught our eye on the first day of CES 2022.
