NHTSA recalls: Autocar, sprinter, and more

The latest safety notices feature failing brake lights and more.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Autocar, Daimler, and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Autocar ACX unsecured cab tilt hinge pin 

Autocar is recalling certain 2023-2024 ACX. The retaining ring could be missing from the cab tilt hinge pin, leaving the pin unsecured. An unsecured pin can separate from the vehicle and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 841 vehicles. Dealers will inspect the cab tilt pin and replace the retaining ring as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 2. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 888-218-3611. Autocar's number for this recall is ACX-2403.

FCCC brake lights may fail to illuminate

Daimler Truck North America is recalling certain 2023-2024 Freightliner Custom Chassis S2C 106 and 2024-2025 Freightliner Custom Chassis S2RV 106 vehicles. The brake lights may not illuminate when the brakes are automatically applied during an active brake assist event. Brake lights that fail to illuminate can fail to indicate to other drivers that the vehicle is slowing down, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 37 vehicles. The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 1. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is F1006.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter improperly heat-treated rear axle spring U-bolts

Daimler Vans USA  is recalling certain 2023-2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles. The spring U-bolts for the rear axle may have reduced strength due to improper heat treatment, which can cause the rear axle to shift out of position. An axle that moves out of position can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 1,232 vehicles. Dealers will replace the spring U-bolts. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 6. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 877-762-8267. DVUSA's number for this recall is VS3FEDERB.
