BlackBerry, Modagrafics introduce asset tracking system to improve trailer connectivity
The ecosystem of connections that surround a connected vehicle can provide fleets with a wealth of customized data, from location and mileage to efficiency and performance.
In comparison to the cabs in most fleets, which are already "well-wired" for connectivity, trailers seem to be falling behind, explained BlackBerry IoT Senior Manager Peter Logan at a seminar hosted by BlackBerry and fleet services graphics provider Modagrafics on April 6.
At the seminar, BlackBerry IoT leaders and Modagrafics President and CEO Paul Pirkle discussed the evolution of connectivity, data security, the changing landscape of fleet management technology and the benefits of connected trailer, specifically the benefits of utilizing the cloud-based trailer monitoring solution BlackBerry Radar.
Launched last September, BlackBerry Radar, a wireless and cloud-based trailer monitoring solution designed to provide real-time visibility of environmental conditions, status and location, is meant to improve trailer connectivity and allow customers to track their assets.
Derek Kuhn, BlackBerry IoT senior vice president, said that the evolution for fleets from collecting simple GPS tracking points to multi-sensor, end-to-end solutions with integrated data security, like BlackBerry Radar, doesn't have to be a move toward complexity.
The seminar, held at Lowes Chicago O'Hare Hotel in Rosemont, IL, included a BlackBerry Radar Asset Tracking System product demonstration with a user-friendly simulation of the web-based management reports, which can be accessed by customers via any internet-connected tablet.
The simulation showed attendees how the BlackBerry Radar monitors critical events such as door opening/closing, cargo load/no load, and the internal environmental conditions of trailers, such as temperature, humidity and barometric pressure.
Forming a partnership
In December 2016, a few months after the Blackberry Radar Asset Tracking System initial launch, Modagrafics had partnered with BlackBerry Radar in a sales agent agreement to combine their marketing and branding products with a reliable tracking solution.
Together they hosted the event introducing BlackBerry Radar to fleet owners and media.
