HDA Truck Pride names 2019 Top Tech winner

Oct. 2, 2019
James Benedict from The Service Company in Dayton, Ohio, has earned the title of 2019 HDA Truck Pride Top Tech.

In its sophomore year, HDA Truck Pride’s Top Tech Competition saw double the entries and quality technicians vie for the Top Tech honors. The contest is open to all HDA Truck Pride technicians, either through a distributing member or truck service expert location.

With a 60-question written exam as the starting line, six technicians advanced to a hands-on competition at the Maryland Motor Truck Association’s SuperTech qualifier. The following six technicians competed in Baltimore:

  • Joel Maassen from Vander Haag’s
  • Evan Lang from E.L.M. Repair and Refrigeration
  • Kurt Schreiner from E.L.M. Repair and Refrigeration
  • James Benedict from The Service Company
  • Brian Judy from RT&T Repair
  • Eric Curler from RT&T Repair

The top two technicians advanced to TMC SuperTech in Raleigh, North Carolina. James Benedict from The Service Company and Brian Judy from RT&T Repair were the only independent technicians to compete at TMC’s annual competition. During a 2-day mix of written tests and hands-on challenges, HDA Truck Pride’s technicians finished 27th and 35th out of 92 competitors. With his finish in the top third, James Benedict from The Service Company in Dayton, Ohio, has earned the title of 2019 HDA Truck Pride Top Tech. This is Benedict’s second year competing for the Top Tech spot; he finished third last year during the Maryland qualifier. This was his first year advancing to TMC SuperTech.

“It was a very good learning experience with regard to how the rest of the industry repairs equipment. I have really enjoyed the two years I represented HDA Truck Pride’s Truck Service Experts through this contest,” said Benedict.
