Fleet Maintenance Senior Art Director Erin Brown has been named Folio's 2019 Designer of the Year. The announcement was made during the Folio Eddie & Ozzie Awards ceremony.

Brown has been designing the pages of Fleet Maintenance magazine since 2010. She has been the recipient of numerous design awards for her work with the commercial vehicle trade publication from organizations over the last decade, both through groups recognizing publishing and design talent, and specific groups within the transportation industry. Examples of awards and recognition for Brown has come from the following groups: the American Society of Business Publication Editors AZBEE Awards; the Trade, Association and Business Publications International (TABPI) Tabbie Awards; the International Automotive Media Competition (IAMC); and the Truck Writers' of North America (TWNA) Communication Awards.

"Erin Brown is a bright, talented, passionate art director with a can-do attitude and team-first mentality," said Mike Uliss, publisher of Fleet Maintenance magazine. "She has elevated the design elements of Fleet Maintenance magazine to make the publication and brand more engaging, and leverages her talent and expertise to capture subscribers' attention with high impact images and innovative design techniques. We are extremely delighted that Folio has recognized her talent and presented her with Designer of the Year. She truly deserves it."

Over the last three years, Brown has initiated and organized a complete redesign of the print layout for Fleet Maintenance magazine. In 2018, she also redesigned the logo of the publication.

"Erin's impressive talent and work ethic have helped to provide consistency with the organization, layout and design of Fleet Maintenance magazine issue to issue," said Fleet Maintenance Editor-in-Chief Erica Schueller. "She continues to be proactive in understanding design trends and implementing them in the pages of Fleet Maintenance. Erin is passionate and dedicated to the art of graphic design, and it comes through in everything she creates."

The Fleet Maintenance team received additional recognition from the 2019 Folio Eddie and Ozzies for additional design work from Brown, as well as editorial.

Schueller's editorial blog, In the Driver's Seat, was recognized as the winner in the B2B/Transportation Column/Blogs category. The online blog was originally created to share her experience with attending higher education to earn her Technical Diploma in professional driving.

The group also received honorable mentions in the following categories:

  • Single Article, B2B, Transportation: Fleet Maintenance April 2019 Cover Story - Benefits of maintenance benchmarking
  • Photography, B2B, Transportation: Fleet Maintenance February 2019 Cover Story opening spread

The Folio Eddie & Ozzie Awards recognize excellence in uncompromising journalism and gorgeous design across all sectors of the publishing industry. This year's competition included a pool of roughly 400 winners narrowed down from more than 2,500 entries.
