Fleet Services by Cox Automotive purchased its remaining stakes of the Fleet Services business from minority owners and original founders Mike Dickinson and Ted Coltrain. With this purchase, Coltrain is retiring from Fleet Services in January 2025, but Dickinson is staying on as a consultant to ease the company’s transition.
“When we founded Dickinson Fleet Services nearly 30 years ago, I couldn’t have imagined that we would grow it into what it is today: A nationwide industry leader with a best-in-class team,” said Ted Coltrain, VP of Operations. “We built a legacy of trust and determination to get the job done right. Cox is ready to build on that legacy and take this business into the future.”
Since Cox Automotive acquired Dickinson Fleet Services in 2020, the Fleet Services business has grown to over 1,500 technicians. Cox Automotive has also acquired several other businesses, including Trudell Trailer Sales, Mobicare, and Corcoran’s Mobile Service.

Moving forward, the company plans to continue expanding its mobile maintenance and emergency mobile service offerings.
"Mobile continues to be a very attractive way to get your fleets maintenance and repairs completed without disrupting your operation," said Kevin Clark, Head of Sales for Fleet Services by Cox Automotive. "We have mobile technicians across the country and we're adding more every month."
Clark explained that Fleet Services by Cox Automotive will be continuing to make their communication systems more efficient via system upgrades, as well as working to make sure their truck shave the right parts for the job to increase efficiency.
Additionally, Kevin Clark will serve as the Interim VP of Sales with this latest acquisition. He currently leads Cox Automotive’s Emergency Mobile Service division and FleeTec Academy technician training program, and has worked with FLeet services for three years. Clark first joined Fleet Services in 2021, prior to which he served as EVP and GM for Amerit Fleet solutions.
"Solving our customers problems is at the forefront of all we do, so my focus will be on the client experience," Clark concluded. "We’ll also work to further enhance our data and reporting, as well as developing fleet maintenance management solutions to fit our customers' needs."
