Saia Inc. is wrapping up its year of celebrating Saia LTL Freight’s 100th anniversary, including highlighting the company’s focus on innovation, resilience, and excellence.
"Our centennial is not just about looking back at our achievements but also looking forward to the innovations and opportunities that lie ahead," said President and CEO Fritz Holzgrefe.
The company was first founded in 1924 in Houma, Louisiana, by Louis Saia Sr., in response to customer demand to carry their goods to New Orleans when he travelled there to pick up produce. 100 years later, the company has grown to 213 terminals across the country with over 15,000 employees, 6,500 tractors, and 22,000 trailers.

Part of Saia’s growth for its 100th year involved a $1 billion investment in operations, which included opening several new terminals across the U.S., many of which were acquired after Yellow Corp.’s closure. Looking forward, the company plans to continue expanding, investing in technology, and committing to sustainability and community involvement.
Finally, Saia has celebrated this anniversary with local events throughout its network, most recently with its employee recognition event at Johns Creek, Georgia headquarters. Also, the company launched two mobile museums depicting Saia’s history, including interactive exhibits and a Saia-truck-driver simulator.
