Hunter Engineering sales VP, Dave Smith, passes at 75

Dave Smith was known for his love of golf and his sense of humor. He joined Hunter in 1975.

Dave Smith, a fixture at Hunter Engineering, who spent nearly 40 years working at there until retiring in 2014, has passed away, the compay said. His last role was as sales VP.

He joined the company in 1975 as a business representative for Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina, and was then promoted in 1985 to Cleveland regional manager. Smith became senior vice president in 2008

According to Hunter Engineering sources, Smith was known for his love of golf and sense of humor. He helped lead Hunter through a period of growth, increasing the company's sales and service organization from 200 representatives to more than 630. 

"Dave took over Hunter's sale organization at a difficult time in the company's history," said Hunter Chairman Stephen Brauer, at the time of Smith's retirement. "His enthusiasm and dedication for the next 24 years led to the creation of the industry's greatest equipment sales and service force and unprecedented success with all of Hunter's major customers. Dave's contribution to Hunter's growth is immeasurable."

Smith is survived by his wife Karen, daughter Kim, and grandsons Lucas, Benjamin, and Blake.
