Ask the Expert: Why does the 3,000-mile oil change myth persist?

March 15, 2016
The 3,000-mile oil change is virtually unnecessary for all vehicles on the road today.

Q: Why does the 3,000-mile oil change myth persist?

A: Oil technology has undergone a lot of changes over the past few decades. As a result, the 3,000-mile oil change is virtually unnecessary for all vehicles on the road today. It truly is a myth that needs to be shattered by facts. Millions of dollars are needlessly spent on oil changes each year operating under the assumption that frequent oil changes are a hedge against trouble. But, more frequent than necessary oil changes are not a guarantee of improved engine life. The only result is causing more environmental hazards by adding more dirty oil filters to the landfill system.

At Hubb Oil Filters, our research shows that the issue is not about the oil in the vehicle, it’s all about the oil filtration system. Depending on how many miles the average vehicle in your fleet is driven, you could save 50 percent or more with the Hubb filter. With HUBB your oil stays cleaner, longer so you don’t have to change your oil as frequently.

Hubb’s patented design increases the oil flow rate to the engine by five times the rate of a standard oil filter, and Hubb’s filter efficiency is 99 percent at removing contaminants at 25 microns versus only 52 percent for a conventional filter, according to the company.
