Tool Review: Kafko Oil Eater product line

March 11, 2014

Product: Kafko International’s line of Oil Eater industrial cleaners, pads and equipment. Products include cleaner and degreasers, absorbent pads and rolls, spill kits, parts and brake washers, glass treatment and odor control and disinfection. The company says its “ultra” concentrated, water-based formula Oil Eater Cleaner and Degreasers – which are non-toxic, biodegradable, non-corrosive, color safe and non-flammable – safely dissolve grease and grime from almost any surface.

Review: Done by Lou Fort, lead technician at K.A.R.S., Huntingburg, IN, who reviewed a variety of Kafko Oil Eater products, including Fleet Wash, Floor Cleaner, Cleaner and Degreaser, Orange Cleaner, Naturals absorbent matting, Rain Away and No Fog.

Fort said he particularly liked Oil Eater Floor Cleaner 1.5-ounce portion packs the best because they “eliminate the need for keeping a measuring device, which never seems to stay put, (to get cleaner) out of a bulk container.”

With the Oil Eater bulk cleaners, he said the recommended mixing ratios “are easy enough to follow.”

He also liked that the earth-friendly products “will actually clean almost any mess we can make.

"I have used lots of different companies’ cleaning products over my many years,” said Fort. “Some fell short of what they claimed it would do. All of the Kafko products I used performed better than any other brand I can remember.”

Versatile

Fort commented that the Cleaner and Degreaser “didn’t have any offensive odor like many others do, and the Orange Cleaner scent is actually a little refreshing.”

Aside from working well on spot clean-ups and the shop floor, “both the Degreaser and Orange Cleaner did a great job of washing the 'blue goo' off tire sidewalls.

“The Orange Cleaner also did a nice job of sprucing up my toolbox without streaking or any noticeable residue. The Fleet Wash did a great job on the vehicles without any ill effects.”

Fort used the Oil Eater Naturals absorbent mats to keep injectors clean and protected while keeping both the oil and fuel contained. “I was also able to skim the oil off the top of a drain pain full of fresh coolant that was accidentally contaminated with transmission fluid using one of the oil-only pads.”

On suggestion Fort offered was that “it would be nice to have some kind of included measuring component added to the containers because finding our measuring cup can (sometimes) take longer than the actual clean-up.”

Overall, Fort gave the Kafko Oil Eater line of products a 10 out of 10.
