Did you know that if the compressor failed due to liquid slugging that it will cause premature failure of the belt tensioner? This failure could cause an under hood rattling noise on 2000 to 2008 Chevrolet Trucks. Liquid Slugging has been known to cause A/C Compressor failure, resulting in the need of a new compressor. If the belt tensioner and serpentine belt are not replaced at the same time, it may generate a noise under the hood. This noise can be mistaken for a premature compressor failure. The typical life of a belt tensioner is 60,000 miles. Some common causes for replacement of tensioner are: loss of tension , bad bearing , or a damaged pulley.
