Brad Van Riper, Truck-Lite’s senior vice president and chief technical officer, discusses headlamp technology.
There have been a lot of advances in headlamp technology, including for commercial vehicles. While halogen bulbs remain the most commonly used, Xenon HID lights are growing in popularity. Also making inroads are LED headlamps.
Truck-Lite is a major producer of safety lighting; forward lighting; wiring harnesses; mirrors; turn signal switches; and safety accessories for the heavy duty truck, trailer and commercial vehicle industries.
Earlier this year, Truck-Lite introduced the world’s first custom LED headlights for the truck market. These headlights were initially developed for military use. LED headlamps do not require a lot of energy to operate and use a special coating that does a much better job at preventing headlamp hazing and yellowing.
