SAE International webcast explores automotive cyber security on Nov. 21

Oct. 11, 2013
Awareness rises about cyber attacks on automobiles.

SAE International presents a free webcast that explores cyber attacks in automobiles and automotive systems. Part of the technical webcast series from the editors of SAE International, “Enduring Cyber Security of Security-Critical Automotive Systems,” will be held Thursday, Nov. 21 at Noon, EST.

Today's vehicles contain a number of systems that are designed to improve overall safety and performance. These systems often control essential functions such as steering, braking, and propulsion, and they may control these functions independently of the driver to help the driver avoid hazardous situations. Much emphasis has been placed on ensuring that safety-critical vehicle systems operate as intended and prevent potentially hazardous situations from occurring. However, less thought has been given to the cyber security of security-critical automotive systems. As awareness increases about the ramifications of cyber attacks on vehicles, more importance is being placed on ways to reduce the likelihood of successful attacks and their potential impact.

This webcast will examine how the interconnectivity of today’s and future vehicles creates the potential for cyber attacks, not only on vehicles but also on the transportation infrastructure, and the strategies and solutions being developed to reduce automotive cyber attacks. Webcast attendees will be invited to interact with the experts during a question and answer segment.

Industry expert speakers will include:

  • Dr. Barbara J. Czerny, PhD, system safety specialist, Chrysler Group LLC
  • Andy Gryc, senior automotive product marketing manager, QNX Software Systems
  • Jeffrey Kelley, product marketing director, Safety, Infineon Technologies North America Inc.
  • Richard Soja, automotive SoC systems engineer, Freescale Semiconductor

Moderator will be Lisa Arrigo, custom electronic products editor, SAE International.

The webcast is hosted by SAE International and sponsored Harman and S-E-A. To learn more about “Enduring Cyber Security of Security-Critical Automotive Systems,” click here. To find the start time in a different time zone, click here.
