Navistar’s Carlbaum headlines 2024 Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference

The EUFMC will be held in Williamsburg, Virginia from June 2-5, and will also cover mutual assistance strategies, upcoming regulatory shifts, and technology changes surrounding electrification and EVs.

The 2024 Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference (EUFMC) is set to take place at the Williamsburg Lodge and Conference Center in Williamsburg, Virginia from June 2-5, 2024. Mathias Carlbaum, president and CEO of Navistar, will kick off the event by delivering the keynote address on the heavy-duty truck landscape. His speech will discuss his experience in the industry, including his current leadership position at Navistar, his work on the TRATON SE Executive Board, and his time at Scania AB in Sweden, Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.

Beyond Carlbaum’s address, the conference’s general education program, ‘Driving Safety, Sustainability & Technical Expertise’ will feature topics including fleet management and artificial intelligence, CARB and EPA truck engine standards updates, and high-energy hazards, among others. While presentation topics and speakers may change leading up to the event, panel sessions will include the following:

  • Mutual Assistance Strategies: This session will feature fleet management discussing mutual assistance strategies for events they’ve experienced, including hurricanes, ice storms, windstorms, and gas emergencies.
  • Fleet Management 2.0 – AI: This panel will discuss how fleet management should approach artificial intelligence in the industry.
  • Navigating Regulatory Shifts - CARB and EPA Updates for Truck Engine Standards: A panel of medium- and heavy-duty truck experts will discuss what’s on the horizon for several regulatory impacts that will affect all fleet managers. They will discuss the 2027 emissions updates for trucks and equipment, and the CARB and EPA stance on diesel engines.
  • Legislative Update: HillStaffer Senior Advisor Michael Taylor will discuss pending legislation in Washington that will affect fleet professionals.
  • Leadership and Great Teams - The Foundation to Safety Success: Eric Kapitulik, former marine and founder of The Program, will speak on how leadership and great teams are the foundation for building a great safety culture.

  • Safety Performance - Reducing High Energy Hazards: A fleet manager will discuss his work to reduce high energy serious injuries and fatalities, with a Q&A featured after the presentation.
  • EVs - The Next Steps: This session will explore electric vehicle cost comparisons to ICE models, user acceptance, and many other EV-related topics.
  • Electrifying Your Fleet - Charging Challenges for a Sustainable Future: This session will include a comprehensive look at the challenges fleet managers are facing to install electric vehicle charging infrastructures.
  • Creative Technician Recruitment & Retention: This panel will cover how two fleets are combating market issues surrounding technician recruitment and retention and discuss solutions from a military perspective.
  • Roundtables: An EUFMC signature event where fleet representatives and suppliers discuss mutual challenges and find solutions.

Additionally, the EUFMC will feature a Drive-Through utility equipment demonstration and an equipment show, as well as the second annual Women in Utility Fleet gathering. This networking event, which is geared toward women in the sector, will discuss the challenges of running a fleet in specific regions and discuss what companies do well compared to other places attendees have worked.
