Domestic Fuels & Lubes to distribute Blue Sky DEF

Feb. 18, 2012
Diesel exhaust fluid now available in Virginia and North Carolina to meet growing demand resulting from EPA Clean Air requirements.

Prime Lube Inc., the parent company of Blue Sky East LLC, announced that Domestic Fuels & Lubes of Chesapeake, Va., has become a distributor of Blue Sky Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). Domestic Fuels & Lubes will offer the EPA-mandated diesel fuel supplement to customers in Virginia and North Carolina. Distribution of Blue Sky DEF will meet growing demand for its use in diesel-powered engines, including tractor trailers, pickup trucks, passenger cars, agricultural and construction equipment, marine vessels and trains.

"The addition of Domestic Fuels & Lubes to our growing family of distributorships is significant for our growth," said Robert Arbasetti, COO of Prime Lube. "We are excited about our association with Domestic Fuels & Lubes, a leading supplier of petroleum products and services, and the expansion of Blue Sky DEF in Virginia and North Carolina. The availability of Blue Sky DEF to diesel-fuel customers allows them to stay compliant with EPA-required emissions levels, while benefitting from a high-quality, low-cost, easy-to-use solution that keeps engines running efficiently."

For more than 25 years, Chesapeake-based Domestic Fuels & Lubes Inc. has been providing southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina homes and businesses with heating oil and commercial oil services. An established leader in all phases of petroleum distribution, Domestic Fuels & Lubes is a branded supplier of high-quality Chevron and Texaco products.

"At Domestic Fuels & Lubes, we have always been committed to providing our customers with safer, cleaner and more efficient fuel alternatives, including biodiesel fuels," said Buddy Ivey, commercial sales manager of Domestic Fuels & Lubes. "The addition of Blue Sky DEF to our product line allows us to make a positive impact on our regional area by offering customers the environmental and performance benefits of this diesel exhaust fluid."

Domestic Fuels & Lubes' full-service distribution and handling capacity of Blue Sky DEF will include its own fleet of trucks for delivery, as well as the capability to provide customers with dispensing equipment, storage tanks and other handling equipment required for DEF. With this strategic distribution partnership, Blue Sky East LLC is able to offer a more affordable supply of DEF to customers in Virginia and North Carolina. Lower transportation costs will also result in a significant price advantage for retail fuel stations and their customers.

Regarding EPA compliance, all diesel-powered passenger and commercial vehicles produced after January 1, 2010, are required to meet new, lower nitrous oxide emissions standards. DEF, in conjunction with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, is the most effective and safest means that commercial and private owner / operators can meet the required U.S. EPA mandate. DEF is also mandated in Canada.

Blue Sky DEF is ISO and API approved to help neutralize the nitrous oxide emissions generated through diesel exhaust. In its most basic form, DEF is a blend of urea (derived from natural gas) and deionized water that combine to form ammonia, which turns nitrous oxide emissions into harmless water vapor and elemental nitrogen. It can also improve fuel economy up to eight percent.
