Cummins unveils new B7.2 and X10 diesel engines

The next engine in the company's HELM platform, the B7.2 is built for a variety of medium-duty applications, while the X10 is a mid-bore engine to replace the L9 and X12.

The B7.2 will go into full production in North America starting in 2027 at Rocky Mount Engine Plant in North Carolina.

“Our B engine is a legend known around the world. We are proud to unveil the newest version, the B7.2 diesel engine, right here in our backyard,” said Brett Merritt, vice president and president, engine business. “The B7.2 brings the latest technology and advancements to one of our most proven platforms. Combined with the rest of our medium-duty lineup, our customers will have the right engine choices to fit their business needs, with the power and dependability they have come to expect from Cummins.”

Equipped with the full suite of Cummins' digital technologies, the B7.2 will help fleets maximize uptime and performance through access to a host of applications. The engine is also compatible with is also Cummins Maintenance Monitor capable, reducing trips to the shop and minimizing total cost of operation.

“Our customers have used the B-Series engine for more than 40 years and rely on it every day to meet their needs,” said Jose Samperio, VP, North America on-highway. “It was important that we offer the reliability and performance that they have come to expect, while also creating an engine that is built to last for the future.”

X10 engine

Also recently introduced is Cummins' X10 engine as another addition to the HELM platform, meaning customers are able to select the fuel that best suits their needs. 

According to the company, the engine's power-to-weight ratio is class-leading, allowing for enhanced productivity without weighing down vehicles.

Cummins plans to launch the X10 in 2027.
