Kenworth gives W900 last hurrah with Legacy Edition
March 28, 2025
Kenworth will make 1,000 W900 Legacy Edition trucks in 2026, featuring Extended Day Cab, 72” Flat Top, and 86” Studio Sleeper configurations, as well as a beige-painted Cummins X15 engine.
As Kenworth is sunsetting its W900 truck, the company has debuted the W900 Legacy Edition at the Mid-America Trucking Show. The company will release the truck’s final builds in 2026.
“We will produce 1,000 of these limited-edition trucks, and they’re sure to become a collector’s item,” said Kevin Haygood, Kenworth’s assistant general manager for sales and marketing. “They’ll be powered by the Cummins X15 engine painted in legacy Cummins beige – an exclusive color for this limited edition. The Legacy Edition is the ninth limited edition W900 Kenworth has produced. In recognition of that, we are bringing back paint schemes from those past trucks and some other fan favorites.”
The Legacy W900s will be available in Extended Day Cab, 72” Flat Top, and 86” Studio Sleeper configurations. Each will be serialized from 1000 to 0001 in order of its build date and sequence, which will be displayed with a special badge on the truck’s glovebox. Each Legacy truck will also feature a black Diamond VIT interior with platinum accents, and the sleeper trucks will have vintage tuck-and-roll beds along the back wall. Every truck will offer Ravenwood door and dash trim, platinum accent stitching, and vintage Kenworth logos on the vehicles’ trim and headrests. Finally, the Kenworth hood badges will feature the design popularized in 1966.
“There has been a long love affair between drivers and the W900,” said Haygood. “It’s The Driver’s Truck with its bold, long hood and stately appearance. The W900 also occupies a special place in popular culture. It dodged Smokey and aided Mr. Bond, all while becoming an iconic piece of automotive history.”
The company stated that after the release of the Legacy W900s, the W990 will be the best truck for those who want traditional long-hood styling. The W990 shares many of the characteristics of the W900 but comes with a wider cab configuration and better aerodynamics, as well as meets current emissions requirements and offers driver assistance features.
