VSP News: Kolman's Korner, Episode 132 - Trailer Brakes

May 24, 2017
In this installment, Fleet Maintenance editor David A. Kolman visits with Brad Begley, vice president, sales, Webb Wheel, about trailer brakes. Among the topics discussed is a braking problem being caused trailer skirts.

Trailer skirts improve aerodynamics, but – says Brad Begley, vice president of sales for Webb Wheel – they create some issues for brakes.

The company manufactures hubs, brake drums and rotors for medium and heavy duty trucks, trailers and buses.

At the same time, the company realized that in the dry van trailer market, some brakes are over-engineered for the application.

To meet these challenges, the company developed a new, lighter and cooler Webb trailer drum with patented CRT, which stands for Cool Running Technology.

This technology increases air flow for superior heat transfer efficiency and cooler trailer wheel‐end operating temperatures.
