The DTC web app lets automotive repair technicians and consumers enter an OBDII diagnostic trouble code and receive a brief description of the problem.

Star EnviroTech recently introduced a free DTC Lookup Web App, http://dtclookup.com, that lets automotive repair technicians or consumers enter an OBDII diagnostic trouble code (DTC) and receive a brief description of the problem related to the code. Technicians and consumers can use the app to look up manufacturer-specific codes for 45 makes of vehicles, as well as generic codes for all vehicles.

The app features a database of approximately 12,000 DTCs, and works on all Internet-enabled smartphones.

“Star developed the web app, as isolating nine of the top 10 trouble codes can be aided by using a diagnostic smoke machine,” said Glenn Richardson, national technical supervisor of the company. Star EnviroTech is the inventor/licensor of the diagnostic smoke leak detection technology that is inside every OEM-mandated smoke machine in the world.

Once the technician or consumer retrieves a code from a code reader, he can use the web app to lookup a description of the code, and then proceed to troubleshoot and fix the problem.

Star introduced its new free web app to the U.S. market at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX), at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.

Star EnviroTech is the inventor/licensor of the diagnostic smoke leak detection technology that is inside every OEM-mandated smoke machine in the world. Diagnostic smoke quickly finds leaks in vehicle systems by introducing vapor into an automotive system. The exiting vapor (smoke), and/or the fluorescent dye shows the exact location of a leak.

Star does not sell leak detectors; it licenses its technology to selected tool manufacturers.
