The 2013 Northwood University International Auto Show (NUIAS) provided an opportunity for more than 60,000 visitors to interact, view and become educated about more than 500 product offerings presented by over 600 students of all majors at Northwood University in Midland, Mich. The Auto Show, which marked its 50th anniversary this year, continued the tradition of students leading, planning, organizing, executing and working the event — an experience unique to Northwood. Throughout the weekend many alumni returned to campus either to display product offerings or visit the show.

“The show this year was truly a success. The weather was beautiful which assisted in bringing out greater numbers, helping us reach a record attendance of 60,000. The teams worked incredibly hard to come up with memorable displays with a wide variety of vehicles. The 50thAuto Show ran without a hitch, due to the hard work and dedication of the students,” commented Adam LaFurgey, NUIAS general chair.

Aspects of the show were different this year with many products returning and some new models being introduced. This included the return of Bentley/Rolls Royce and the involvement of the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA). The goal for next year’s show will be to maintain this year’s vendors while also offering new exhibits.

According to Dr. Timothy Nash, vice president for strategic and corporate alliances and Fry endowed chair in free market economics, “The NUIAS impacts the Midland area with an estimated two to three million dollars annually. The students of Northwood University should be proud of their hard work, as the experience they take with them is something you could never learn in a classroom.”

The event, which takes nearly a full year of preparation, is already under way for next year which will mark the 51st year of the Auto Show. S
