Course meets requirements of the National Automotive Training Education Foundation

Ashworth College recently introduced content revisions to its online auto mechanic training course. The course has been updated to better meet the requirements of the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).

Committed to the success of its graduates, Ashworth  developed its auto mechanics program to provide the latest in-depth instruction of auto mechanic procedures that helps lay the foundation for understanding engine types, components and auto repair techniques.

“As the number of vehicles in the United States continues to grow, there will naturally be increased demand for more entry-level automotive service technicians who can handle basic maintenance and repair – as much as 17 percent by 2020,” said Dr. Leslie Gargiulo, Ashworth College’s chief academic officer, citing a statistic from the U.S. Bureau of Labor.

“To help meet this demand, Ashworth has developed its auto mechanics course to fit within the student’s budget as well as personal and career goals. Students are able to start the program at any time and study at their own pace.”

The Ashworth College auto mechanic course for automotive technicians is comprised 51 comprehensive lessons and Ashworth’s popular Introduction to Study Skills. Topics are based on those recommended by NATEF, including:

  •  Hazards and emergencies
  •  Personal and property safety
  •  Tools and equipment fundamentals
  • Diagnostic equipment
  • Using electric power, air power and non-powered tools
  • Lifting equipment
  • Engine layouts
  • Drive configurations
  • Vehicle inspection procedures
  • Engine rebuilding and cooling

Founded as an independent, non-profit organization, NATEF operates with a single mission: to evaluate technician training programs against standards developed by the automotive industry and recommend qualifying programs for NATEF accreditation.
