Lakeside International Trucks is launching a training program for graduating high-school seniors interested in becoming diesel technicians. Lakeside DieselTech Academy includes 800 hours of training curriculum, toolkits, and room and board throughout the 10-month session, all free for participants.
“Recognizing the need to innovate to find skilled diesel technicians, especially with fewer young people entering the trades in recent years, we developed this new approach,” said Rob Durham, vice president of Marketing and Human Resources at Lakeside International Trucks. “The Lakeside DieselTech Academy not only addresses the critical talent shortage but also offers a unique, hands-on learning experience in a small group setting.”

Valued at $54,000, the company claimed, participants are also paid throughout their training. More specifically, DieselTech Academy includes 80 hours of instructor-led training and 80 hours of on-the-job training per month, granting students 12 industry certifications and the chance to earn their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
“We provide them with competitive wages, full benefits, and a state-of-the-art learning environment,” Durham continued. “Our ‘earn as you learn’ model ensures that they receive real-world experience and industry certifications, setting them up for a successful career.”
Applications for the inaugural class, set to begin training in fall 2024, are being accepted. To apply or learn more, click here.
