Additional hands-on training opportunities

July 9, 2015
This series of hands-on training sessions is designed for technicians, shop supervisors and fleet managers.

As usual, any TMCSuperTech competitor or TMC Fall Meeting attendee may attend the Professional Technician Development Committee (PTDC) Training Fair. This is a series of hands-on training sessions designed for technicians, shop supervisors and fleet managers.

A group within TMC, PTDC promotes and enhances the professionalism of commercial vehicle technicians.

The Training Fair is held in conjunction with the annual TMCSuperTech – the trucking industry’s National Technician Skills Competition – and the annual TMC Fall Meeting. It qualifies for continuing education credit units accepted by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (www.natef.org).

THREE SESSIONS

The three training sessions will each be held on Wednesday, Sept 23, at 7 - 8 AM; 8:15 - 9:15 AM; and 9:30 - 10:30 AM. Each session runs concurrently during each time block to maximize the number of training opportunities.

Training Session 1 – Onboard Filter and Vehicle System Monitoring

During this session, panelists will review available technologies to monitor the condition of various onboard air, fuel and oil filtration devices and other vehicle systems, and they will discuss how these can be used to improve fleet preventive maintenance programs.

Training Session 2 – Fifth Wheel Technical Training

The session will provide a comprehensive overview of fifth wheel operation, parts identification and routine failures, and will apply to products from all fifth wheel manufacturers. Applicable TMC recommended practices will be covered as well.

A TMC recommended practice (RP) is a specification or practice that assists equipment users, vehicle/component manufacturers and other industry suppliers in the purchase, design, maintenance and performance of commercial vehicle equipment. The adoption of an RP is voluntary.

Training Session 3 – Wheel Bearing Adjustment Procedures

The session will provide a comprehensive overview of wheel bearing adjustment procedures for conventional wheel bearing systems. Panelists also will cover wheel bearing operation, parts identification and routine failures. The information will apply to products from all wheel bearing manufacturers, and applicable TMC RPs will be discussed.
