Car Care Council Women’s Board continues to provide career leadership to women in the automotive aftermarket
The Car Care Council Women’s Board (WB) is comprised of professional women and men from the automotive aftermarket who are dedicated to providing career leadership to women in the automotive aftermarket, providing car care information to female audiences and encouraging young people to investigate opportunities in the automotive aftermarket. It is a non-profit organization, supported by the Car Care Council, the information source for the “Be Car Care Aware” campaign. Its membership represents many areas of the automotive aftermarket including parts distribution, marketing and advertising, financial, education, independent service station owners and others.
Since the group was founded in 1988 by a group of influential female automotive industry professionals, the WB has grown to accomplish many things and continues to expand its reach to consumers and in the industry.
Scholarship Program
Each year, the WB awards scholarships to female students studying to enter the automotive aftermarket. Currently in its tenth year, the WB has awarded a total of $54,000 in scholarships to women from all across the country.
The top scholarship recipient receives the biggest financial reward and a trip to the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX), where she is honored at the Women’s Board Annual Reception.
In memory of one of the founders and because of her contributions particularly in the WB Scholarship program, this year the WB named the top scholarship the Becky Babcox Women’s Board Scholarship Award.
Awards Program
The WB provides career leadership by recognizing companies and individuals in the industry. One of the WB’s most popular awards are the annual Automotive Communications Awards (ACA) for companies and agencies that provide automotive information to consumers and the trade professionals who interact with them on a daily basis.
Since 2004, the WB has awarded 284 Automotive Communications Awards. The WB annually honors deserving women in the industry with the Women of the Year Awards. Since its inception, the WB has awarded nine Aftermarket Woman of the Year Awards based on her longevity in the aftermarket, career accomplishments,
leadership capabilities and dedication to the automotive aftermarket industry. Since 2011, the WB has expanded the Women of the Year Awards program to include Female Service Shop Owner of the Year to an outstanding woman who has a proven record of excellence in the automotive service industry, and Woman of Promise to a woman who has shown potential in her aftermarket career.
Bi-Annual Meetings
The WB hosts bi-annual meetings with a day and a half of strategic planning geared toward encouraging women to enter the industry and consumer education. Meetings are open to the public. For more information on all things WB, visit www.carcare.org/womens-board, or e-mail [email protected].
