Allison Transmission announces opening of Vehicle Environmental Test Center

March 5, 2020
The center will enable the company and their OEM partners to bring technology and products to market faster.

Allison Transmission, global manufacturer of medium and heavy duty fully automatic transmissions, announced this week during a press conference at the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis the opening of its Vehicle Environmental Test (VET) Center will be July 8, 2020.

The VET Center, located in Indianapolis, is currently under construction and nearing completion on schedule.

“It will be one of few such facilities in the U.S. and the only one of its kind in the Midwest,” said Randy Kirk, senior vice president of product engineering and program management at Allison Transmission.

The center will house two environmental chambers, a hot soak chamber and a cold soak chamber, and two chassis dyne-equipped environmental chambers capable of simulating a broad range of environmental conditions and duty cycles.

The 60,000 sq. ft. building will provide vehicle system development and validation in repeatable, reliable, and seasonally independent conditions to get the test results needed. This may include conventional powertrains, alternative fuel vehicles, electric hybrid vehicles, and fully electric vehicles for all aspects of performance, including emissions and fuel economy.

All testing will be conducted in a manner ensuring customer data is secure and confidential, Kirk noted.

In addition to Allison and its OEM partners, the center will be available to external parties to support their testing and certification needs.
