Kenworth announced that two Hendrickson rear air ride suspensions are now available as options on Kenworth medium duty cabovers.

According to Doug Powell, Kenworth medium duty marketing manager, the Kenworth K270 and K370 cabovers come standard with soft riding Reyco mechanical spring suspensions, "but some customers want another level of comfort and cargo cradling that only an air ride suspension can deliver. That's where the Hendrickson suspensions fit in," he said.

"For those hauling high value cargo, glass or bottled beverages, we expect the Hendrickson HAS210L and HAS230L rear air ride suspensions to be a popular option. They're the same suspension systems that are already available for our medium duty conventionals," Powell said.

The announcement was made in conjunction with The Work Truck Show taking place through March 8 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. Kenworth has a record eight trucks, including a Kenworth K270 van body, at the annual show sponsored by the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA).

Applications for the K270 and K370 include pick-up and delivery, lease/rental, towing/recovery, landscaping, furniture, and food processing and distribution that require a highly maneuverable truck with 16' to 28' van body size, stake bed, or roll-on/roll-off bed. The 63.4" BBC (front bumper to back of the cab) on the K270 and K370 provides a 55-degree wheel cut for excellent maneuverability.

The suspension options are just the latest addition Kenworth has made to the medium duty cabovers. Last summer, the company announced the availability of a 22.5" tire and wheel package, allowing the K270 Class 6 and K370 Class 7 to match up to standard dock heights at pickup and delivery locations.

Kenworth also earlier expanded the total wheelbase configurations available for the Kenworth K270 and K370. The new 22.5" tire and wheel package allows a wheelbase range of 146" to 242" in 12" increments. The new longer wheelbase allows for up to a 28' van body installation, while the shorter wheelbase can accommodate a van body length down to 16'.

Both the K270 and K370 are powered by a 6.7L PACCAR PX-7 engine with a standard 220-hp rating and 520 lb-ft of maximum torque. Optional ratings are 240-hp and 560 lb-ft of torque and 250-hp with 660 lb-ft of torque. Both models are available with Allison 5-speed transmissions.
