Eagle Diagnostics & Repair, LLC/DBA Bob's Automotive

York, Maine

Dave Bonci owns and manages Eagle Diagnostics & Repair/Bob's Automotive in York, Maine, with the help of his wife, Lexi. "She keeps the books and starts the repair orders," he says. Bonci serves as the shop's sole technician.

Bonci's two-bay shop, with lifts on both sides, is a Maine State Inspection shop, a AAA shop and a NAPA Auto Care shop that has received the "Best of the Best" award for the greater York/Kittery area for the past 13 years. The first owner of Bob's Automotive received the award, and the Bonci's "kept it going."

Bonci's shop performs general repairs and diagnostic repairs including oil changes, tire work, brake work, engine work and transmission work on all types of vehicles including Audi, Ford, GM, Honda, Kia, Land Rover, Mazda, Mini, Volkswagen, Volvo and USPS Long Life Vehicles. He says, "We do almost anything, except alignments and rebuilding transmissions."

Bonci, a technician of 34 years, works on eight to 10 vehicles per day. For Bonci, it seems, efficiency is the name of the game, and in this case, a huge advantage of his toolbox.

Bonci ordered his custom box from Snap-on in 2014. Due to changes that were not included on the original order, Bonci received his box at the beginning of 2015. His box, a 12' long Snap-on box in total, is comprised of an 84" box with a powerbank and power top unit, a workstation and two side lockers.

The workstation offers Bonci a central location for service information and paperwork. Because of this, it is his favorite part of the toolbox. He adds, "The power top and workstation make for a very efficient area."

Each of Bonci's drawers are separated by tool type, including: sockets, wrenches, pilers, air tools, screwdrivers, pikes, extensions, hammers and diagnostic tools, which he keeps in the lockers.

Another feature of the box that stands out to him is the advantage that the power drawer offers. He keeps all of his cordless tools charged in this drawer. The power drawer also serves as storage for his air tools.

Bonci says his favorite tool is any tool that would make the job at hand easier for him to accomplish, any tool that improves his efficiency. He also mentions that he has wrenches dating back as far as 1950.
