The Ranger Division of BendPak is introducing the R980DP tire changer, which is a swing-arm tire changer with two power-assist arms and a new bead roller. The machine is designed for low-profile, run-flat, and high-performance tires and oversized truck wheels, as well as off-road assemblies.
“As the technician population continues to age, and the shortage gets worse, Ranger is dedicated to developing equipment like the R980DP tire changer to reduce physical strain on techs while helping to improve their efficiency and shop throughput,” said Dave Wiederschall, sales manager, national accounts. “The Ranger R980DP tire changer’s two pneumatic assist arms give technicians the power boost they need to effortlessly handle the most demanding jobs.”
The tire changer’s right-side arm includes a bead roller to press down stiff beads for the tire iron while demounting and helps keep beads below the beak of the tool head when mounting. Meanwhile, the left-side arm features a drop-center tool with a multi-function bird-shaped head to accommodate a range of wheel edge profiles. This arm can be used as a tire hook as well.
Additionally, the R980DP comes with a high-torque, high-speed electric turntable with a 3-hp motor. For shops without 22V access, the Ranger division also offers the R980DPL 110-volt model that comes with a standard turntable.
Both tables feature a handheld TurboBlast Bead Seater that can be placed directly in the bead to deliver bursts of air, as well as a bead breaker auto assist device to reduce operator strain. After the pneumatic-powered blade penetrates the bead, the Bead Breaker Auto Assist Device dislodges and retracts the blade from the tire, eliminating the need to yank out stuck blades.
The tire changer also has an ergonomic layout with upfront controls, as well as a 45 mm spring-assisted hex tool shaft and a hardened outrigger arm for stability and accuracy. No-Mar RimGuard wheel clamps can accommodate wheels from 9-30” without damaging wheel finishes, and the protective polymer mount/demount head and plastic protector kit eliminate metal-to-metal contact to protect powder-coated, alloy, and high-end wheels.
Finally, for durability, the R980DP offers industrial-grade pneumatic control valves, high-pressure polyurethane pneumatic tubing, and forged steel pedals, plus a maintenance-free gearbox with a large oil and grease reservoir to dissipate heat throughout the tire changer’s lifetime.
Both R980DP and R980DP-L come with a warranty of two years on the equipment structure and one year on operating components and labor, and both are available to purchase alone or with the Ranger Select package for installation and training.
