Karmak launches mobile service app to cut repair time

April 19, 2024
Karmak says the app can save technicians at least 5 minutes per managed repair order, equaling about 80 hours returned per 1,000 repair orders.

Karmak is launching Karmak Mobile Service, an app to let shops remotely manage repair orders in real time. The Mobile Service app can work alongside Karmak’s Fusion, the company’s dealer management solution.

“With the introduction of Karmak Mobile Service, we're not just launching an app; we're revolutionizing the way technicians and service advisors operate with Fusion,” John Cowan, Vice President of Business Solutions at Karmak. “We envision a world where repair order management is agile, seamless, and tailored to the unique demands of our industry.

The Mobile Service system offers the following features:

  • Editable repair orders
  • VIN Scan with Native Device OCR Technology
  • Editable tasks with complaints, causes, and correction sections
  • Voice-to-Text capabilities
  • Adding/deleting parts to tasks on repair orders
  • App usage analytics, instructional walkthroughs, and release notes
  • Clocking on/off capabilities for billable and non-billable tasks
  • Customizable settings

According to Karmak, the app can save technicians at least 5 minutes per managed repair order, equating to about 80 hours returned for every 1,000 repair orders. Additionally, pricing for the app is based on a per-repair-order rate with no setup costs or hidden fees, the company stated. And the first 30 days of use are free, as long as customers also have Karmak’s Fusion business system.

“For the field being able to record stories, add tasks, and clock in and out on the job has made our techs more efficient and our labor data more accurate,” said Eric Hagan, Fusion application support engineer at TCI Corporation. “The app has reduced calls back to the shops to add tasks and improved information since it can be recorded in real time instead of being recalled at the end of the shift.

The app will have additional features added based on user feedback, including the ability to construct new service units, create new customer records, integrate Karmak’s Fusion VIN Decoding program, handle parts requests, and utilize technician priority work lists.
