Ask the Expert: What are some the advancements in modern battery chargers and maintainers?

March 5, 2014
Some new-generation battery chargers feature updated microprocessor technology for better battery service.

Q: What are some the advancements in modern battery chargers and maintainers?

A: For decades battery chargers have typically been what is called “linear” based, which is really just a transformer that cranks voltage and current into a battery.  This technology is old but still available on the market today.  There are quite a few dangers that come with this older style technology including sparks, short circuits and damage to a battery.

CTEK has designed a new generation of advanced battery chargers with microprocessor technology.  Through an eight-step charging curve, CTEK chargers adjust the voltage and current based on how the battery is accepting a charge which will deliver a safe and efficient charge that will maximize the batteries life and performance.  All CTEK chargers are spark- and short circuit-proof.  CTEK chargers are also internally surge protected so there is not a risk of damage to any sensitive electronics on a vehicle.
