Chrysler recalls more than 130,000 Ram 1500s with eTorque

A powertrain control module software issue may cause an incorrect fuel condition in the engine, resulting in an engine stall, according to the NHTSA recall.

Chrysler is recalling about 131,700 Model Year 2021 Ram 1500 pickup trucks equipped with 5.7L Hemi engine and mild hydrid eTorque engines.The eTorque system uses a belt-driven motor generator unit in place of an alternator to conserve energy and provide more power and efficiency, but a software issue puts trucks equipped the technology at risk.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the powertrain control module software may cause an incorrect fuel mixture condition in the engine, and result in an engine stall, thus increasing the chance of a crash.

To resolve the issue, dealers will update the powertrain control module calibration software at no charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 2, 2023. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. The recall number is 37A.
