In 1997, when Freigthliner trucks purchased the Heavy Truck Division of the Ford Motor Company, shortly therafter launching the Sterling Truck Line brand to focus on vocational truck market segments.
In 2008, Freightliner ceased production of the Sterling brand. In 2010, Freightliner again decided to focus on vocational markets.
