Axles to employ AdvanTEK technology for improving fuel economy and durability.

Dana Holding Corporation introduced a family of single-reduction drive axles for North American commercial vehicles that leverages its AdvanTEK technology, a common head-assembly architecture, and other proven Spicer axle technologies to reduce weight, improve efficiency and enhance durability.

The announcement was made at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.

Engineered for 6x2 and 4x2 axle configurations, these axles are lighter weight than competing axles on the market and feature a wide selection of ratios from 2.05:1 to 7.17:1, including fast, direct-drive ratios that support engine downspeeding. Dana’s family of single-reduction drive axles are targeted for Class 7 and Class 8 applications with a 21,000- to 26,000-lb gross axle weight rating and an 80,000- to 100,000-lb gross vehicle weight rating.

“Dana leads the market with a full range of driveline solutions that help fleet owners maximize the return on their investment by improving fuel efficiency and reducing maintenance requirements,” said Mark Wallace, executive vice president of Dana and group president of Dana on-highway driveline technologies. “The Spicer AdvanTEK 40 axle has established new benchmarks in efficiency for high-torque, fast-ratio 6x4 tandems, and these new single-reduction drive axles incorporating AdvanTEK technology will provide comparable breakthroughs in performance for 6x2 and 4x2 vehicles.”

Axles with AdvanTEK technology are designed with numerous innovations, including increased power density and efficiency in a smaller package; smooth interior surfaces that decrease churning losses; superior machining and castings for extended durability; and an efficient lubrication system that requires 10 percent less lube.

Dana’s single-reduction drive axles are engineered to meet accelerating demand for the most popular axle segment in the world with a flexible design that can be locally sourced and manufactured to meet varying market requirements and decrease time to market.
