Through continual development of improved and brighter LED forward lighting technology, Truck-Lite as developed a newly designed 7-inch round LED Headlamp in support of growing market interest in the product.
Made in the U.S.A., Truck-Lite's 27270C LED Headlamp utilizes a completely new light delivery method, adopting parabolic reflector technology to create a smooth, even light output.
The use of metalized reflector optics provides a clean and homogeneous spread of light, more uniform than other options, without any targeted or focused beams or projector-type color artifacts.
"We used the latest in computer-assisted optics design software to create a reflector-based system that provides an optimum lighting pattern,” said Paul Sniegocki, Truck-Lite's vice president of research and development. “We essentially increased visibility to the driver, while minimizing glare to oncoming traffic, providing illumination that's safer to everyone on the road."
Truck-Lite's 2007 release of the a DOT-Compliant LED Headlamp marked the first time the commercial industry was offered the benefits of LED technology for head lamp applications, Brad Van Riper, Truck-Lite's chief technology officer, noted. The product represented a giant leap forward in creation of visibility systems, and for the first time, offered the heavy-duty industry a head lamp capable of outliving the rigors of highway driving.
"We received very positive feedback on the LED headlamp's durability and increased visibility, however we understood there was a need for a more conventional and stylized design,” said reported John Howells, the company’s vice president of worldwide sales. “The aesthetic appearance of the new 7-inc" round headlamps is very sleek and modern, catering to those looking for both a rugged yet traditional appearance.
The new design, which shares features of Truck-Lite's recent 5-inch by 7-inch rectangular release, meets or exceeds FMVSS-108 and CMVSS-108 DOT requirements for both low and high beam performance.
The new LED Headlamp produces light far superior to that of conventional halogen lamps, with a color temperature of 5,800'K, closer to the color temperature of daylight, Van Riper said.
The new lamp is designed with Omni-Volt technology to accommodate both 12- and 24-volt headlamp applications, providing crisper and whiter light output than halogen alternatives, while extending product life and adding greater dependability, he added.
The maintenance-free lamp uses a solid-state, bulb-free system that's impervious to damage caused by shock and vibration, with a military grade, die-cast aluminum housing, non-yellowing polycarbonate lens and a scratch-resistant hard coating to protect against damage from impact, roadside debris and other hazards.
Truck-Lite's 7-inch round LED headlamp, 27270C, is a drop-in replacement for #6014, 6015, 6016, H6024 and Par 56 lamp systems, utilizing standard H4 3 blade connector.
Advanced LED technology has significantly reduced LED headlamp current draw compared to halogen products, to 3.6a high beam and 1.8a low beam, allowing more power for other vehicle requirements and extending alternator life, said Van Riper.
Rectangular Lamp
Truck-Lite’s 5-inch by 7-inch LED headlamp application, part #27450C, was designed to utilize cutting-edge two LED arrays and complex reflector, creating smooth, even light output and clean streamlined appearance. The use of metalized reflector optics provides a lighting experience that is both smooth and clean across the driving surface, said Van Riper.
The headlamp system meets and exceeds FMVSS-108 and CMVSS-108 DOT requirements for both low and high beam performance.
New LED technology has enabled Truck-Lite to engineer LED headlamp products that produce light far closer to the actual color temperature of natural sunlight (6,000K) than conventional incandescent or halogen lamps, he noted.
The lamps multi-volt design works with both 12-volt and 24-volt systems.
