Dorman Products opens new U.S.-based drive shaft facility

June 17, 2024
The new driveline facility offers 100,000 sq. ft. with computer-controlled machine tools, robotic welding equipment, and a custom packaging department.

Dorman Products recently opened a new drive shaft manufacturing facility in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The facility joins the company’s other two Dorman sites in Reno, Nevada, and Portland, Tennessee, in designing, manufacturing, and distributing precision steel and aluminum driveshafts and components.

"We've seen increased demand for this product line, and we're making this move to expand our capacity to produce, stock, and ship our products to better serve our customers," said Shiva Menon, general manager for Dorman’s driveline business.

The new facility is 100,000 sq. ft., making it five times bigger than the company’s former Virginia Beach site. The plant houses advanced, computer-controlled machine tools, robotic welding equipment, and drive shaft balancing and testing gear. The building also has an area devoted to custom packaging of finished shafts suited to Dorman’s new packaging process.

“Dorman invested millions of dollars in this world-class facility in response to our customers’ needs,” said Eric Luftig, SVP, Product, Dorman Products. The facility also increases Dorman’s U.S.-based manufacturing footprint to over one million sq.-ft.
