Brevard Community College first to meet new standards

The National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) announced that Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Fla. is the first automobile technology program to achieve accreditation to the new NATEF automobile accreditation standards. Brevard has recertified as a Master Level training program and has held NATEF accreditation since 1986.

"NATEF is proud to recognize Brevard Community College and congratulate them on being the first automobile technology program to meet the updated NATEF automobile accreditation standards," said Trish Serratore, NATEF President. "The new standards were updated in 2012 to reflect the latest standards of knowledge as defined by the industry to ensure the supply of qualified, entry-level automotive professionals well into the future."

The 2012 automobile accreditation is now a three-tier accreditation model with a Maintenance and Light Repair level, an Automobile Service Technology level and the Master Automobile Service Technology level. Programs may accredit at any or all of the levels by meeting the number of instructional hours, teaching the new and revised tasks, as well as having instructors ASE certified in the appropriate areas. All the information regarding the model is available on the NATEF website. Visit www.natef.org for more information.
