From 1970 to the late 1980s, API heavy duty engine oil had only two performance categories: API CD-1970 and API CE. Today, there is an additional category - CJ-4,  and new API engine performance categories are expected to be introduced about every three to four years.

The free webcast, "Heavy Duty Engine Oil, The Road Ahead," will discuss how various factors, including engine design changes for improved performance, fuel efficiency and reduced emission levels, have placed greater stress and demands on engine oils, and as a consequence, new oil formulations have to be improved and developed to ensure engine durability and sustain engine oil change intervals.

Hosting the webcast, set for on August 27, 2012, at 3 p.m. CST, is Mark Betner, heavy duty product manager for CITGO Lubricants.

Betner has 35 years of experience in the lubricants business. He holds a certification from the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers and is a member of the Truck Maintenance Council.
