As vehicle design and construction evolve, so too must collision repair procedures, equipment and shops. Learn the latest techniques for welding modern high-strength steels and aluminum by attending a free webcast presented by Elektron on July 17. Participants can register for “Welding Techniques for Today’s Shop: Using the Right Equipment for the Right Weld,” produced by Auto Body Repair Network (ABRN), at www.abrn.com/weldingtechniques.

“Properly welding aluminum and advanced steels requires new methods and equipment,” says Richard Perry, global repair product manager for Elektron parent company Vehicle Service Group (VSG). “Their use in vehicle bodies is only going to increase over the next few years, so it is important that collision repair professionals start equipping themselves now with the knowledge and equipment necessary to properly return these vehicles to manufacturer specs. This webcast offers an easy, free opportunity for technicians to learn how to expand their welding capabilities.”

Perry, who has worked in the collision repair industry for more than 20 years, will lead the webcast. He will discuss the differences between repairing collision damage in aluminum vs. steel, and will demonstrate how MIG brazing can be used with high-strength steels. Features offered by welders that are specifically designed for aluminum and advanced steel applications, like Elektron’s new MIG/MAG welders, will be highlighted.

“No matter what the material, using the right equipment for a particular repair can make it much easier to produce a good weld,” says Perry. “Technicians who are equipped with modern tools and the tips presented in the ABRN webcast will be more confident about repairing the newest vehicles.”

Additional information about the “Welding Techniques for Today’s Shop: Using the Right Equipment for the Right Weld” webcast is available at www.abrn.com/weldingtechniques. The webcast starts at 2 p.m. EDT on July 17 and is expected to last one hour, including a question-and-answer session.
