Key Highlights

  • Nuclear verdicts have been on the rise in the trucking industry for several years, with fleets citing them, and subsequent insurance premium hikes across the board, as top concerns
  • Motive and Geico are partnering to allow fleets to save up to 10% on their insurance premiums by driving safely
  • New Geico policyholders can install Motive's Driver Safety program and Motive Fleet Management Solution and share the data with Geico, which will reward safe fleets with reduced premiums.
  • Existing policy holders are expected to be able to join the program in 2026.

After the economy, lawsuit abuse reform and insurance costs are the two biggest concerns for fleets, according to the American Transportation Research Institute’s latest annual survey. The two are interconnected, as insurance providers pick up the cost for nuclear verdicts and settlements following commercial vehicle accidents, and those costs are effectively absorbed by all the insured. And for an industry operating on slim margins in a down economy, it’s difficult to afford those higher premiums.
