Ford dash display issue forces recall of 355k pickups
Ford Motor Company is yet again recalling Ford F-Series trucks, this time due to a malfunctioning Instrument Panel Cluster, which provides the driver with vital maintenance and safety information such as fault alerts, fluid levels, and even the digital speedometer.
At startup, these digital information displays stay blank, according to the NHTSA recall (No. 25V540). Ford said in the recall report that the cluster could stay blank due to a memory protection fault that occurs when the CAN bus signal interrupts the IPC’s sleep entry sequence.
The good news is the issue can be fixed with an IPC Module software update by going to your local Ford or Lincoln dealership, or possibly through over-the-air updates or a visit from a Ford mobile service technician. The bad news is the problem impacts 278,376 Ford F-150s made from May 14, 2024 to July 25, 2025, as well as 77,280 of Ford Super Duty trucks (F-250, 350, 450, and 550 models) made from June 6, 2024 to July 22 of this year.
In total, the recall affects 355,656 trucks.
The issue seems to have first popped up on a January 2025 warranty claim, and Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group started investigating in May. As of June, 95 claims were filed.
If you think your vehicle may be part of the recall, contact your local Ford dealer or call Ford’s toll-free line: 1-866-436-7332.
A similar issue popped up on certain 2022-2023 Super Duty trucks and Ford Escapes in 2023. In that recall (NHSTA No. 23V-506), the Instrument Panel Cluster would not illuminate, but this was due to poorly soldered joints in the remote cluster box. More than 17,000 Super Duty trucks were affected.
Ford is closing in on 100 recalls, ranging from brake and fuel pump issues to lights and gauge defects, for the year with four months to go. This has affected 6.3 million vehicles. Ford already broke the NHTSA recall record in July.
