SuperRigs Results: 'Scrapin By' edges out competition

June 3, 2025
Shell Rotella’s 43rd annual SuperRigs truck beauty contest may have started with rain, but the trucks still brought the shine.

ATLANTA, Georgia—The weather was not kind to the dozens of truckers parked at the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the 43rd Shell Rotella SuperRigs truck beauty contest the last weekend of May, with spurts of rain causing the frustrated drivers to hurriedly wipe down their chrome over and over again, waiting their turn to pull up to the judging tent.

And though the skies were gray, one truck in particular, owned by Kenny Ziglar II, had those judges seeing red. Viper red, to be exact. That's the color of Ziglar's 2007 Peterbilt Model 379, called "Scrapin By," which was named Best of Show. That earned him the $10,000 grand prize, and he netted another grand for coming in 2nd place in the Best Lights category.

Ziglar, who owns Ziglar Transport, a small trucking company out of Cheyenne, Wyoming, wasn't sure if he'd scrape out the victory, considering the quality of the competition. Under a clear blue sky on Saturday, he nervously listened to the other winners being named, not sure if the 1,600-mile trip would be worth it.

"I'm like, 'Man, it's getting down to the wire here,'" Zeglar exclaimed after the victory was announced. "So, yeah, it was overwhelming to say the least.”

He noted the win was a collaborative effort that stretched over the course of a year.

Justin Kendrick, owner and CEO at Mobill's Truck Repair in Lufkin, Texas, did much of the custom work, which was “all hand-built,” Ziglar said. This includes the T-bars, deck plate, belly pan, and front suspension, while Ziglar's brother-in-law did much of the painting. The interior and other elements, like the tufted door panels, were also outsourced.

“I try to use all those small companies, because we're a small company ourselves,”  Ziglar explained, “so I try to support small people.”

And even though the day turned sunny, the trucker didn't have time to bask in it or this victory for very long. He had places to be, and this is a working show truck after all, having spent time in Rocky Mountain oilfields and hauling bulk chemicals.

“We're back to work,” Zigler offered. “We've got to go to South Dakota [for a show] this coming week, but I'll pick a load up to go up there, and then after the show, it'll be back at it.”

Other winners included Best of Show first runner-up Raiko Graveran from Orlando, Florida, with his 1995 Freightliner FLD-120, and second runner-up Buck Crombie of Checotah, Oklahoma with his 1989 Peterbilt 379. Crombie also took home the Best Theme award.
