September recall report: Ford, Daimler, Volvo, and more
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued recall notices for certain commercial vehicles, including models by Ford, Daimler, Volvo, General Motors, and more.
Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. Here's some more information on each recall.
Ford models’ loss of steering control from steering column detachment
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2020-2021 F-250, F-350, and F-450 vehicles. The steering column upper shaft may detach from the steering column and result in a loss of steering control. A loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.
This recall potentially affects 115,539 vehicles. Dealers will inspect the steering column and repair or replace the upper shaft as necessary. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed October 6. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in December 2025. Ford models’ high-pressure fuel pump may leak and cause a fire
Ford is recalling certain 2024 Bronco and Ranger vehicles. The bolts securing the high-pressure fuel pump may not be tightened properly, which can result in a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
This recall potentially affects nine vehicles. Dealers will replace the high-pressure fuel pump mounting bolts. Owner notification letters were mailed in September. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S90.
Ford Transit models’ incorrect tires and steering coupler cover installed
Ford is recalling certain 2023-2024 Transit vehicles repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 24V226 and 24V591. An incorrect steering coupler cover and tires that were not designed for the vehicle may have been installed during a previous repair. Incorrect tires and an incorrect steering coupler cover can cause a loss of brake function, loss of steering control, or damage to tires, increasing the risk of a crash.
This recall potentially affects 212 vehicles. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the tires, tire placard, and certification label, as well as recalibrate the vehicle. Additionally, dealers will remove the steering coupler cover. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed October 13. Chevrolet, GMC models’ electronic stability control light may not illuminate
General Motors is recalling certain 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV electric vehicles. After experiencing an electronic stability control (ESC) system malfunction, the ESC malfunction warning light may not illuminate on the next key cycle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems." An indicator light that does not illuminate may fail to warn the driver of an ESC system issue, increasing the risk of a crash.
This recall potentially affects 1,191 vehicles. The EBCM software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) software update. Ram models’ side curtain airbag inflators may rupture
Chrysler is recalling certain 2018 Ram 1500, Ram 2500, and Ram 3500 vehicles. The right and left side curtain airbag inflators may rupture due to a manufacturing defect. An inflator rupture may result in sharp metal fragments striking occupants, resulting in injury.
This recall potentially affects 1,761 vehicles. Dealers will replace one or both side curtain airbags as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 9. Ram models' trailer hitch may detach
Reading Truck Body is recalling certain 2023 Ram 4500 vehicles equipped with a Curt Hitch (P/N 15400). The trailer hitch may have been installed with too few mounting bolts, causing the assembly to loosen and detach. A detached trailer hitch assembly can create a road hazard for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
This recall potentially affects 10 vehicles. Reading will replace the hitch. Owner notification letters were mailed in September. Owners may contact Reading's customer service at 610-775-3301.
Daimler models’ loose brake caliper mounting bolts
Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is recalling certain 2025 FCCC XCR, FCCC XBS, FCCC MT45, Western Star 57X, 2025-2026 FCCC MT55, FCCC MT45G, FCCC XCP, FCCC XCM, Freightliner Cascadia, Freightliner Business Class M2, Western Star 49X, Western Star 47X, and 2026 FCCC MT50E vehicles. The brake caliper mounting bolts may loosen and detach, which can cause a loss of brake function and damage the tire and/or wheel. A loss of brake function can increase the risk of a crash. In addition, a damaged wheel or tire can lead to a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Daimler models’ loss of steering control from improperly installed fasteners
Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is recalling certain 2024-2026 Western Star 47X, Freightliner Business Class M2, FCCC MT55G, 2025-2026 Western Star 49X, Freightliner Cascadia, FCCC MT45G, FCCC S2RV106, 2026 Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2, Freightliner eCascadia, and FCCC S2C106 vehicles. The tie rod castle nut and cotter pin may not be installed properly, which can result in a loss of vehicle steering control. A loss of vehicle steering control increases the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter models’ improperly reinforced frame members
Daimler Vans USA (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and Sprinter 3500 vehicles. The longitudinal frame members may not be reinforced properly. Frame members with inadequate strength may reduce the vehicle's performance in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
This recall potentially affects four vehicles. Dealers will inspect and repair the frame as necessary. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed November 7. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in November 2025. Mack Pioneer models’ inoperative trailer lighting
Mack Trucks is recalling certain 2025-2026 Pioneer vehicles. When towing a trailer, the trailer lights may fail to illuminate due to an improperly manufactured body control module. Trailer tail lights and turn signals that do not illuminate as intended can reduce visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Volvo VN models’ defective latch may prevent door from opening
Volvo Trucks is recalling certain 2026 New VN trucks. The door latch cable on the interior door handle may be incorrectly installed, preventing the door from opening. A door that cannot be opened from the inside may trap occupants, increasing the risk of injury.

Wabash models’ insufficient rear impact protection
Wabash is recalling certain 2026 DVCVHPC van trailers. The incorrect rear impact guard may have been installed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 224, "Rear Impact Protection." The incorrect guard may not sufficiently protect a following vehicle during a rear-end crash, increasing the risk of injury.
This recall potentially affects 10 vehicles. Wabash replaced the rear impact guards. All affected trailers were repaired by August 18. Owners may contact Wabash customer service at 765-771-5404.
