NHTSA issues recalls for Chevy, Ford, and more

The administration issued safety recalls for certain Chevy Silverado and Ford-150 pickup trucks, as well as some Ford Transit vans and some Kalmar Ottawa vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Ford, Chevy, and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Chevy Silverado rear bumper mounting bracket underrated for towing

A trailer that detaches from a vehicle while driving increases the risk of a crash.

OEM Systems is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado vehicles. The rear bumper mounting bracket may not be sufficient for towing, which can allow the towed trailer to detach from the vehicle. A trailer that detaches from a vehicle while driving increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 38 vehicles. OEM will replace the rear bumper mounting bracket and hitch. Owner notification letters were mailed in August. Owners may contact OEM customer service at 800-810-7252.

Ford F-150 engine intake valves may break

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021-2022 F-150 vehicles equipped with either a 2.7L or 3.0L Nano EcoBoost engine. The engine intake valves may break while driving, which can result in engine failure and a loss of drive power. A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 90,736 vehicles. Dealers will perform an engine cycle test and replace the engine as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 7. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S55.

Ford Transit incorrect gross axle weight rating on labels

An overloaded vehicle may result in steering knuckle failure and a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford is recalling certain 2024 Transit vehicles. The front gross axle weight rating may be labeled incorrectly on the vehicle B-pillar label and the owner's manual label, which can result in an overloaded vehicle. This recall potentially affects 373 vehicles. Dealers will replace the labels. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 9. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S53.

Kalmar Ottawa T2 6X4 insufficient air volume in brake system

Insufficient air volume can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

Kalmar Solutions is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ottawa T2 6X4 vehicles. The air tanks have an insufficient volume of air for the brake system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems." Insufficient air volume can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 96 vehicles. Dealers will replace the air tank. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 16. Owners may contact Kalmar customer service at 785-229-6327.
