Premium diesel benefits your fleet over time

Dec. 8, 2021
The fuel you choose to put into your engine directly impacts how smoothly it runs and how frequently you need to invest in new equipment.

As a fleet owner, improving overall efficiency and equipment longevity is an important factor for a successful operation. The fuel you choose to put into your diesel engine will directly impact how smoothly your equipment runs and how frequently you need to invest in new equipment. Premium diesel has many long-term benefits but increasing the life span of your fleet vehicle is at the top of that list.

There are many differences between regular and premium diesel .And while you may currently be using standard #2 diesel without a problem, it is still important to consider making a switch. Over time, your engine’s fuel pump and injectors get dirty — a gradual, hard-to-notice process that reduces both engine performance and fuel economy. Standard #2 diesel does not contain any additives that reduce wear, extend storage life or reduce the formation of gum, varnish and corrosion. When it comes to over-the-counter additives, many simply have solvents that offer limited benefits. Plus, when you add it all up, they usually cost more than simply using a premium diesel from the beginning.

Return on investment

Premium diesel provides the best ROI in the long-term for fleet owners. Here’s why:

  1. Cleans the engine Detergents reduce buildup on engine parts, meaning improved fuel efficiency and greater horsepower.
  2. Prevents moisture A demulsifier separates water from fuel, preventing unwanted moisture from being carried through the fuel system. This creates less wear on injectors and makes for fewer filter replacements.
  3. Reduces friction Diesel lubricants reduce the friction and wear of the fuel pump and injection components. These engine parts are under intense pressure, and friction-reducing agents provide 10% to 15% better protection against friction and wear on the fuel pump than a typical #2 diesel fuel does.
  4. Ensures quicker startups and less pollution A higher cetane number  results in shorter delays and better ignition quality.

Premium diesel fuels can vary widely by supplier. However, no other premium diesel fuel contains a more complete, multifunctional additive package than Cenex Roadmaster XL. In more than 14,000 hours of grueling real-world tests, Cenex Roadmaster XL prevented injection fouling and filter plugging while delivering premium power and fuel economy. It gets the job done all year long.
